The Shiba Inu development team is forging a strategic alliance with D3, a prominent player in the internet domain sector, to embark on the acquisition of the ".shib" internet domain. This move signifies a calculated step towards the realization of an expansive decentralized identity initiative.

In a recent development, Shiba Inu developers have entered into a partnership with D3 to introduce the ".shib" internet top-level domain into the market. This aligns seamlessly with their broader goal of advancing identity-centric projects within the cryptocurrency space. Communication from Shiba Inu representatives to Bitsday, conveyed through a Telegram chat, unveiled the ongoing collaboration with D3 for the application of the .shib top-level domain. The application process will unfold through the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the global internet domain database, during the upcoming application window.

ICANN serves a crucial role in scrutinizing and approving internet domain applications. Successful approval grants domain owners the authority to sell domains within a specific suffix, such as ".xyz" or ".app." While crypto domains aim to augment this concept by linking a wallet owner to a domain name for identity verification in blockchain applications, they currently face challenges in terms of compatibility with traditional internet usage through browsers, email, and mobile devices.

The strategic pursuit of the authentic .shib top-level domain positions Shiba Inu as a potential trailblazer among Web3 networks with its dedicated Domain Name System (DNS) namespace.

Shytoshi Kusama, the Lead Developer of Shiba Inu, underscored the significance of the collaboration with D3, emphasizing its potential to extend beyond the existing ShibArmy. The partnership holds the promise of providing direct access to the SHIB ecosystem for more than 5 billion internet users.
