BONK's Soaring Success Propels Solana Saga Phone Prices to $2K Heights

Solana's Saga phone, once labeled a "failure," has experienced a remarkable turnaround, and the credit goes to a strategic marketing move involving the BONK dog-themed meme token. The inclusion of a 30 million BONK token airdrop in sealed phone boxes has breathed new life into the previously lackluster Saga sales.

On platforms like eBay, the transformation is evident, with Saga phones fetching prices exceeding $2,000. Some units, labeled "sealed and unopened," have even commanded prices as high as $5,000, The Block earlier reported, marking a substantial reversal for a device that was once considered unsuccessful by its creators.

The recent surge in Solana Saga phone sales can be attributed to arbitrage traders chasing the 30 million BONK token airdrop associated with each phone. This airdrop, reaching a peak value of over $700 last week, proved to be an attractive incentive for buyers, especially considering the phone's original cost of $599.

The momentum gained by the dog-themed BONK token in November, marked by a rapid 110% spike in a 24-hour period and a staggering 700% increase in 30-day gains, has undeniably contributed to the positive turn in Saga phone fortunes. Previously clouded by uncertainty due to disappointing sales, the Saga phone now rides the wave of renewed interest.

Solana founder Anatoly Yakovenko, who expressed skepticism earlier about selling 50,000 units, stating, 

"I think 25,000 to 50,000 units to feel like there is a hardcore user base for developers to be compelled to ship applications,"

 may need to reassess the market reception following these recent developments.

Despite facing challenges earlier this year and undergoing a price reduction in August from $1,000 to $599, the Saga phone has now sold out in the U.S. and European Union, as announced by Solana co-founder Raj Gokal last Friday. The unexpected alliance with the BONK token has not only revitalized Saga phone sales but has also ignited renewed interest in the device within the blockchain community.
